Little Leapers is a non-competitive, recreational skipping program for children aged JK to 12 years of age. The program is taught voluntarily by members of the Lincoln Leapers Competitive Jump Rope Team and helps kids learn to skip. In a fun, non-competitive class, kids are given the opportunity to learn some skipping “tricks” with their own jump rope as well as learning to skip double dutch.
The Program runs for 24 weeks (Sept-Apr) and includes 1 hour of jump rope instruction per week as well as a skipping rope and a t-shirt for each participant. Classes are run Wednesday evenings in Beamsville from 5:30 to 6:30 pm or 6:30 to 7:30 pm.
The goal of the “Little Leapers” program is to provide a fun and relaxed, yet safe and healthy, non-competitive and recreational environment for all of the “Littles” participating within the skipping program.
Jump Rope is one of the best activities for a healthy life-style. It is said to help fight heart disease, obesity, type II diabetes and osteoporosis, not to mention it improves strength and fitness. Jumping rope can burn up to 1000 calories per hour, making it one of the most efficient workouts possible. It tones muscles in the entire body, developing long, lean muscles in all major muscle groups, both upper and lower. The U.S. Olympic Committee Sports Medical Council recommends rope skipping as one of the best cardiovascular workouts.
If you want to maximize your athletic ability, just pick up a rope, your coordination, timing and endurance are sure to improve.
